Fall Lash Shedding

We are right in the middle of Fall, and it’s been glorious! The weather has been great; being outside has given us life as the leaves are falling and the days are sunny but cool. Along with the cardigans, the hot cocoa and the booties and all the cute fall colors, comes Fall lash shedding. Lash shedding is a totally natural thing that happens to every human, but did you know there is such a thing as a Fall lash shedding? I didn’t either! Below I will go over what the difference is between regular lash shedding, and Fall lash shedding, and what you can do to keep up with the more intense fall-out of your lashes.

What is Lash Shedding?

YOUR LASHES HAVE A GROWTH CYCLE AND AROUND EVERY TWO WEEKS THE AVERAGE PERSON LOSES ABOUT 20% OF THEIR LASHES DUE TO THIS CYCLE. YOUR LASHES CAN ONLY GROW TO A CERTAIN LENGTH BEFORE THEY SHED, AND ONCE THEY SHED, A NEW HAIR IS ALREADY TO GROW IN IT’S PLACE. Lash extensions don’t affect this cycle; the lashes fall out whether you have extensions or not.

What is Fall lash shedding?

As this time of year approaches, the temperatures and humidity change. The change in both of these affects your lash growth cycle a little bit. You know how when it gets colder your skin tends to get drier? Because of this, our bodies produce more oil to help moisten our skin and keep it from drying out. Because of the oil production, you may notice a few more of your hair falling out, and a little bit more of your lashes shedding at a faster rate than usual.

How do I keep up with fall lash shedding?

-Keep up on those fill appointments (every 2-3 weeks)! That’s the most important thing you can do to insure that your lashes keep looking full and fabulous while your body transitions back to it’s regular lash cycle.

-Make sure you wash your lashes and keep them clean! Our lash shampoo is a great way to keep those lashes sparkling and helps with the extra buildup that can happen during a seasonal shift like this.

-Brush those lashes! brushing them helps keep residue at bay and ensures a clean lash line.
